La vasija

The vase becomes a metaphor for the body as a container of everything we accumulate or don't let go of: emotions and experiences that, little by little, fill our inner space. From here the question arises: how much can we carry without overflowing?

This work was born through the grisaille technique, first building the volumes, the depth and the play of light and shadow through grey tones. Then, through successive glazes, colour was added over that base, transforming the perception of the painting and bringing to life a space that seemed dim, as if it lacked colour.

The vessel, half full or half empty depending on how we see it, also holds flowers: symbols of beauty that remind us that beauty does not disappear when life becomes heavy; it is still there, waiting to be discovered.

Although the composition already had beauty in its greyscale, the glazes revealed new possibilities. Colour transformed the perception of the work and gave the vessel the shine and transparency of glass. It was one of the surprises of the process: discovering how adding colour could change the painting so much without losing the depth that was already there.
