Explorando el duelo desde fuera

This painting began with a very clear image in my mind: a red heart on a black background. But as the process unfolded, something shifted. I no longer wanted to paint a complete heart—I felt it was time to depict a heart in grief.

I was reflecting on breakups, not only the ones we commonly imagine like romantic partnerships or the loss of a loved one, but also those quiet, unspoken losses: leaving a place, letting go of a version of yourself, or releasing an illusion. I believe that, in some way, we all carry a crack. This is mine.

As I painted, I thought about how life continues to move around us, even through heartbreak. We often coexist with people who are carrying far more than we can see—and sometimes, until you truly look, you don't even realize it was there.
